It is with sadness that I learn of the death of Bishop Eamon Casey. He was bishop of the diocese of Kerry from 1969 to 1976. His years in our diocese were a time of growth and expansion in terms of social services for youth and the elderly, for the poor and disadvantaged, also services to marriage and family. The Kerry mission to Kenya commenced. A major renovation of the Cathedral was undertaken. Bishop Casey was a driving force in all of this. It is hard to believe it is now over forty years since he transferred to Galway diocese.
On behalf of myself and Bishop Bill Murphy and the whole community of the diocese of Kerry I sympathise with his family, his extended family and all who mourn him.
“O God, almighty Father, our faith professes that your Son died and rose again; mercifully grant, that your servant who has fallen asleep in Christ, may rejoice to rise again through Him.”
