A sale has been agreed for the presbytery and lands in Kilgarvan. The price agreed is €258,000.
The Diocese has been obliged to attain the market value for the property and has achieved this by selling to the highest bidder in the process.
The entire sum of money from this sale is available to the parish. This will be of benefit in the planning for the future development of Kilgarvan parish and in the work to put in place the best structures and supports to ensure a vibrant parish that helps in the celebration of our faith.
We wish to acknowledge that this decision will disappoint some who had hoped for another outcome.
The property is owned by St. Brendan’s Trust, which is a Limited Company, incorporated on 19th May 1953. The Trust is the legal entity which holds Title to Catholic Church property in all 53 parishes of the diocese, including churches, presbyteries, schools, parish halls and land.
St. Brendan’s Trust is a registered charity and is subject to the requirements of the Charities Acts. All disposals of assets of a charity must have the approval of the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests, commonly known as “the Charity Commissioners”. Except in the case of a sale to another charity, all disposals must be at full market value. It is both a moral and legal requirement that the Diocese gets the best possible price for the property that the market can offer.
