Christian Meditation John Main Tradition Prayer Groups
Meditation is a way of pure prayer marked by silence, stillness and simplicity. It helps people of all ages, cultures and beliefs to find a simple, practical and meaningful way to awaken and deepen their spiritual life leading them to inner peace. Many Christians have recovered contact with their own tradition of meditation, or contemplative prayer, because of the work of the Benedictine monk John Main (1926-1982). He was the founder of the World Community for Christian Meditation of which Ireland is a part. His teaching of this ancient tradition of prayer is rooted in the Gospels and in the early Christian monastic tradition of the Desert Fathers and Mothers. www.christianmeditation.ie www.wccm.org

Centering Prayer Group
In the mid 1980’s a simple method of silent prayer was developed by three Trappist monks, most notably Fr Thomas Keating, after an examination of the Christian and Scriptural Contemplative Tradition. This method came to be known as Centering Prayer, drawing especially from Thomas Merton’s definition of contemplation as prayer “centred entirely on the presence of God.”
Centering Prayer is simply sitting in silence, open to God’s love and your love for God, in which we consent to God’s presence and action in us. This prayer is beyond thoughts, words, emotions, or sensations. Like being with a very close friend or lover, where words are not required, Centering Prayer brings your relationship with God to a level deeper than conversation, to pure communion.
Centering Prayer takes place each Wednesday night in St Brendan’s Pastoral Centre at 7:30pm and all are welcome.
