Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home.Pope Francis (2015)
Back in August 2019, Bishop Ray received a letter with a request from the Papal Nuncio about the impact of the Pope’s encyclical Laudato Si’ in the Diocese of Kerry. We understand a similar letter was sent to all dioceses.
It said “The Holy See wishes to evaluate the impact that the encyclical has had since its publication in May 2015, as illustrated by the various initiatives in the line of study and practical implementation to which it has given rise.”
The letter closed by stating “The competent Dicasteries of the Holy See will study these materials and further enrich them with what is gleaned from deliberations at the coming Special Synod on the Amazon. In due course it is hoped that helpful guidelines can be offered to the faithful with a view to future applications.”
This is the Response to Papal Nuncio Okolo Web to the Bishop Ray with a number of related recordings from ‘Horizons’ and ‘Just a Thought’ (Radio Kerry). We hope you find it interesting.
And below find some details of some of what happened in the Diocese during the Season of Creation 2019.
Sunday 1st September is the annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation It also marks the beginning of a five-week period known as the Season of Creation. This is a time in the calendar of Christian churches around the world when people unite to pray, reflect and take action to protect our common home. The season ends on October 4th, feast of St Francis: lover of the poor and of creation.
This year our Diocesan committee for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation chose to focus on the theme of Climate Crisis. Pope Francis appeals for a new dialogue addressing how we are shaping our future and appeals to community groups to take action together. In our homes, parishes and wider communities, let us commit to climate action, cognisant that we only have eleven years to lower global temperature.
