A History of the Diocese of Kerry launched by Bishop Bill Murphy
A publication telling the story of the diocese of Kerry was launched on the 24th October 2005 in Killarney.Titled ‘The Diocese of Kerry –Working in the fields of God’, the full colour 157 page hardback, tells the story of the diocese of Kerry for the first time. The publication was compiled and edited by the diocesan historian and archivist Fr. Kieran O’Shea, Parish Priest of Knocknagoshel. The work unites the Christian communities in the fifty-three parishes with their ancestors in faith right back to the fifth century Christian community with its Bishop, St. Erc. A fitting tribute to the hundreds of thousands of laity, religious and clergy who laboured, often in times of poverty and persecution to keep the Christian faith alive and to build up God’s kingdom in this diocese.

‘Canaimís’ – A hymnal for the Diocese of Kerry
Bishop Bill Murphy, launched the new diocesan hymnal on Pentecost Sunday, May 2005 in St. Mary’s Cathedral Killarney. It reflects the important role of music in the liturgy and the commitment by this diocese to the ministry of music’. ‘Canaimís’ draws on the rich song traditions of church and culture.
The Director of Music Ministry Mr. Pádraig McIntyre who worked to produce this resource, hopes ‘that ‘Canaimís’ will be a practical aid to those preparing liturgies in parishes and schools’. Its use will help towards a full and more active participation by all in the liturgy. Music and song is something that expresses, nourishes and strengthens our faith. In fact it can unveil a whole dimension of feeling and communicate ideas that words alone cannot.
